   Cosmetic Packaging Materials

   Cosmetic Printing Process   


1. UV printing, which is a printing process that dries and cures inks by ultraviolet light, requires the cooperation of inks containing photosensitizers and UV curing lamps. UV inks have covered offset printing, screen, inkjet, pad printing and other fields. UV generally refers to the printing effect process in the traditional printing industry. For example, a layer of varnish (bright, matte, mosaic, glitter, etc.) is applied on a printed pattern that you want, which can increase The brightness and artistic effect of the product protect the surface of the product. It has high hardness, corrosion resistance and friction, and is not prone to scratches.


2. Silk screen printing: There are usually two types of glass bottle silk screen printing, one is high temperature ink screen printing, which is characterized by not easy to decolorize, and the color tone is difficult to produce an effect, and the other is low temperature ink printing, which has brighter color and higher requirements for ink.



3. Offset printing, silk screen printing and gravure printing are mainly used for outer packaging. Because small plates can better grasp the operation of various processes, it is recommended to make printing impositions as small as possible. Generally, it is best to make 4-6 styles on one plate, and try to make as much time as possible. 5. Hot stamping is the most commonly used surface finishing process for cosmetic packaging cartons. The hot stamping process can be divided into ordinary hot stamping and holographic hot stamping according to the hot stamping material, and holographic hot stamping has three types: ordinary version holographic hot stamping, special version holographic hot stamping and special version positioning hot stamping. 1. Polylactic Acid

Polylactic acid ( PLA ) material has been widely used in food packaging and disposable tableware manufacturing. PLA material has good processability and biocompatibility, and is currently the main biodegradable packaging material for cosmetics. The PLA material has good rigidity and mechanical resistance, making it a good material for rigid cosmetic packaging.


2. Polyhydroxyalkanoate

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have attracted attention due to their high biodegradability in different environments. In fact, PHAs are processed in a wide variety of applications including packaging, molded articles, paper coatings, nonwovens, adhesives, films and performance additives. Produced by bacteria in the natural environment, PHA polymers can be processed into a variety of useful products, and their efficient biodegradability is especially suitable for single-use packaging.


3. Cellulose

Cellulose and its derivatives are the most commonly used polysaccharides used in packaging production and are the most abundant natural polymers on earth. Consists of glucose monomer units linked together by B-1,4 glycosidic bonds, which enable the cellulose chains to form strong interchain hydrogen bonds. Raw cellulose is highly hydrophilic and has poor barrier properties to moisture. Only multi-layer materials or composite materials can be used as packaging, so it is not suitable for packaging of perishable items. The relatively low thermal degradation of cellulose makes the crystalline structure of cellulose easy to become a brittle material), therefore, cellulose-based packaging is only suitable for the storage of non-hygroscopic dry cosmetics. 4. Starch

Starch materials are polysaccharides composed of amylose and amylopectin, mainly derived from cereals, cassava and potatoes. Commercially available starch-based materials consist of a mixture of starch and other polymers, such as polyvinyl alcohol or polycaprolactone. These starch-based thermoplastics have been used in a wide range of industrial applications for cosmetic packaging extrusion applications, injection molding, blow molding, film blowing and foaming. 5. Chitosan

Chitosan has potential as a biodegradable packaging material for cosmetics due to its antimicrobial activity. Chitosan is a cationic polysaccharide derived from the deacetylation of chitin, which is derived from crustacean shells or fungal hyphae. Chitosan is non-toxic, has good biodegradability, strong film-forming ability, and good anti-fungal and anti-oxidation properties. In addition, studies have also confirmed that chitosan films have good barrier properties to oxygen. Chitosan can be used as a coating on PLA films to produce flexible packaging that is both biodegradable and antioxidant.



   Development Status Of Cosmetic Packaging Materials

   The Future of Cosmetic Packaging   


At present, cosmetic packaging is mostly made of paper products and plastic products. The raw materials of the former are trees, and the raw materials of the latter are petrochemical products. Relatively speaking, paper packaging is easy to degrade, and plastic packaging will cause a lot of white pollution, and it is not easy to degrade after recycling. But papermaking can be remedied by "cutting down a tree and planting a tree", which will not reduce forest coverage. The conclusion is that paper packaging is more environmentally friendly. But the data show that this result does not hold. From the perspective of global forest coverage, Japan is about 67%, Germany is about 30%, the United States is about 33%, while China is only 16.5%.Europe, the United States and Japan have high forest coverage, small population, and high per capita forest coverage. It can be seen that although paper packaging is easy to degrade, it is not friendly in a sense. Therefore, strengthening the R&D and promotion of biomass materials, such as biodegradable materials PLA, PHA, PCL, PBS, PBAT, PPC, bio-based PE, bio-based PET and other new materials has become one of the future development directions of the cosmetic packaging industry.
